| Topic: || How To: Install X-notifier |
|Description:|| X-notifier is a plugin for several browsers that allows you to automatically login to your email address(es) and will let you know in your browser by a little icon that you have mail, and how much you have unread. |
Direct your favorite browser to http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/
On the page you will see an area that looks like this:
Choose your browser that you wish to add X-notifier to.
For this example, we are choosing The Google Chrome browser.
Click on the button that says "Chrome":
It will open up a new window which is the chrome web store.
You will notice that it is "X-notifier Neo" which is not the plugin that we are looking for.
Where it shows the Add to Chrome button, there is a little grey x that will close this window.
Click on the x to close that window.
Upper left hand area you can use to search for the "x-notifier".
Just type it in the box and hit enter:
The first two entries are what we are looking for:
Choose the first one:
Go ahead and add it to the Chrome browser by clicking on the Add button:
The button you just clicked will change to:
And then you will get a pop-up that says:
If you see this one, you chose the wrong version and you should click on the little grey x.
Click on "Add Extension" to install it. The x-notifier webpage will open.
An icon will appear similar to the following one in the upper right hand part of your browser window, near your other plugins, if any.
Left click on the icon to bring up the menu for the plugin:
Then choose "Options" which will open up a new tab in your browser.
You will notice that East Kingdom Email is not one of the Default choices.
To add the East Kingdom email service as a choice in X-notifier, you will need to add a little bit of code to the browser.
Leave the Options tab open for now, we will need it again later.
Back on the X-Notifier website, http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/ if you look to the top of the page there is a set of menu choices you may not have seen before.
The choice we are interested now is "Scripts":
Click on that to bring you to the page where there are tons of choices for you to choose from.
If you see this error message:
The website doesn't have all versions of all browsers listed all the time.
You can go page by page through all of the scripts available, maybe finding others you might want to use for your own personal services, or you can click on the little number 5 to get to the page that has the Roundcube script.
You will see at the bottom of your browser the notification that the file has been downloaded.
Time to go back to the options for X-notifier to add this to the plugin.
Click on "Scripts":
A new popup will ask you for more information:
Click on "Add". The "Get scripts" link at the bottom will lead you to the same website you were just on to get the script to begin with.
The Add button will bring up a search window for you to find where the roundcube.js file was saved to your computer.
Choose the file and click on Open:
You will return to the Scripts window and you will see the roundcube entry there:
Click on "Ok".
Now when you click on the dropdown to select the service, you will see that Roundcube is now an option:
Choose Roundcube and prepare to fill in your information:
Username is your full email address.
Password is your email password.
Server is mail.eastkingdom.org
If you make any changes to this page, do not forget to save the entry! You have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to do so:
The list of Current Emails checked will initially look like:
Once you click on "Save" at the bottom of the page, the list of current emails will change:
You can always set the main email as Default by checking the box next to it.
Don't forget to save it again if you do that.
The icon in the plugin area will change:
And you may have a desktop notification pop up if you have those enabled in your browser.
When you click on the X-notifier icon, it will open up a new browser tab and automatically log you into the email that you chose.
**NOTA BENE** If you have more than one East Kingdom email address, X-notifier can check every one of them!
Lastly, if you go back to the Chrome Web Store, you will see that the extension wants you to rate it.
Test it, before you rate it.
